Out on my own

Exam week is just around the corner and the library is at capacity. Too bad this many people don't study all through the year, I could definitely use some company on the fourth floor during the semester. Most people seem pretty stressed out and the number of random people smiling at me has decreased. Today, I was thinking about all the things that I have to do this next week and this summer. I was trying to get my mental "to do list" updated and I thought about how different people around the world stress about different things. Here I am loosing sleep over the exams next week, but other people around the world maybe we loosing sleep over how they are going to survive the next day.

Spartans Taking Action Now: Darfur (STAND), has been selected as one of the three finalist to receive a $10K grant to promote awareness about the Darfur (Sudan) genocide.
Please visit MTV U and vote for Swarthmore college, Duke Univ., or Georgetown University for the $40K grant and for the $10K grant I urge you to vote for MSU.

Since last October I have been the subject for a physiology study. MSU and Purdue university are studying the affects of old age on motor units. The hypothesis is that as you get older you have a few motor units controling many muscle, in comparison to me (control of the study) I have many motor units controlling small parts of my muscles.

So, Dr. Andary stimulated my peroneal nerve (lateral dorsal side of knee) and made my foot and lower leg move on it's own. He identified 16 motor units in 45 minutes, which is the most he has ever found in that short period of time. I need to get one of these machines in my house, so I can just work out with out ever leaving. Doesn't that sound like an add on TV "loose weight with out doing anything..... call 1800 ....

Al-Aqsa

Last Friday, as I prayed at the East Lansing mosque, the Imam--who leads the worhship--announced a threat by the Israeli fundamentalist group called "Revava" to overtake Majid Al-Aqsa (Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem). The Israeli fundamentalists had publicly announced an attack plan last Saturday (9 April). Busloads of Muslims flocked to protect this incredible landmark. Fortunately, the Israeli government has asked all Israeli rebels to back down, fearing a Palestinian uprising. Of course, this doesn’t mean the situation for the people of Jerusalem has improved; it is just a bit of news from the Muslim world everyone should be aware of.

Here is a link to my favorite source of information: the BBC. If you visit one website daily, this should be it.

The riots this past weekend were great photo opps. This kid is being dragged across ths street because he was taking pictures of the cops.

After a dissapointing loss to UNC thousands of students flooded the streets of Michigan State University campus. In my opinion this was was a tame gathering compared to the incredibile riots in tthe past years. It was amusing to see everyone with there telephone cameras and mini digital camera. In just three years they have become so popular.

The day after the riots I was surfing through some other blogs and this one girl mentioned:

"a rally for workers' rights draws about 100 people.
but, woah, MSU's mens team loses a basketball game and the streets are full of kids."

I definitely agree, it is very sad to notice where students our age choose to expend their energy. I can't imagine how different this world would be if we had thousands of students coming together for a better cause.
